So you're de-cluttering your house, and living on a tight budget. In your process of getting organized, you realize that you don't have enough storage containers, and would rather not spend the money purchasing them. I have been there myself, and though it may not seem very fancy, I came up with the idea of making my own storage containers with things I have laying around the house that could then be used and displayed. I've listed a few ideas below.
- I used a couple of strong cardboard boxes and old scraps of fabric that I had. I cut the top folds off of the box and discarded. Then covered the box (inside and out) with the fabric using a hot glue gun.
- Like many people, I used to store pretty vases, serving bowls, and pitchers, that were rarely used or seen, behind closed doors. I now display them out in the open for storing cooking utensils, and other various items that fit well.
- Instead of throwing out old baking tins, such as loaf pans...I use them in the pantry for storing gravy packets and small items that easily get lost.
- Use old Easter baskets for storing medications, makeup, crayons/markers, etc.
